Designator (How-To)

Modified on Tue, 24 Aug, 2021 at 5:30 PM

Introduction

Designator is used to easily create unique component designations individually or in bulk. It can be further used to check for conflicting designations and to create compound designations, in case you have identical pieces of equipment at different assembly levels. Designator functionality is split into a Tree (for creating individual designations) and a Map (for bulk-editing designations).

Starting Out

Designator Settings

Before anyone begins using Designator, please review the above page to make sure the right settings are set for your organization!

Designation Tree

The above document will guide users on how to use the Designator Tree to create individual designations on components of an assembly. Typically, we recommend the Tree for designers who are familiar with the assembly structure and components being designated.

Designation Map

The above document will guide users on how to use the Designator Map to bulk adding/editing of designations. Typically, we recommend the Map for power users or administrators as it is very powerful.

Additional Pages

ID Path

The ID Path is the value of the unique assembly component path that Creo uses to identify feature IDs within components starting at the top-level assembly and working recursively through the sub-assemblies.
