Web Application

Notes

In the web application, you can add Notes in the Standardize section (shown below). Each note will be comprised of:

  • Name - a [String] of your choosing (this will be used to identify the note body)
  • Note Body - a text [String] of your choosing (this will be what shows up in Creo)
  • Note Type - a choice between:
    • Component Note - used only for component notes
    • General Note - used in a Note Profile
    • ECAD Note - used in ECAD components
  • Description - an extra [String] describing the Notes

Note Profiles

Similar to how Parameters can be combined into a Parameter Profile and applied to a Model Template, Notes can be combined into many Note Blocks that make up a Note Profile, which can be applied to a Model Template. In the below picture, you'll see the "Circuit Board Drawing Notes" Note Profile with two Note Blocks "STANDARD_NOTES" and "NEW_NOTE_BLOCK", containing 3 and 1 Notes, respectively.

To add more Note Blocks, simply select "Add New" at the top right. To add more Notes to a Note Block, search for the Note (that's already been created in Notes) at the bottom of the block. You can then drag the notes around inside the block to properly order them.

Creo Application

Moving into Creo, we can write the standardized "Circuit Board Drawing Notes" Note Profile in a DRW. In the CadActive ribbon, select "Note Builder" (shown below).

Change Note Block

If we change the "Note block" dropdown from NEW_NOTE_BLOCK to STANDARD_NOTES, we'll see the content change corresponding to the notes and order in the Note Block from the web application.

Reorder Notes

To re-order the notes, simply click the note and press the up or down arrows on the right side. We will move the CONFIDENTIALITY note to #2.

Settings

Select "Show Settings" at the bottom left and the option to toggle Note Uppercase off or change the Start Number (if needed).

Place Note

Once you have your note ready to go, you can select the "Place" button at the bottom right. Two options will be available: Place as an Annotation or Place in a Table Cell. Below you can see the note placed as both.

Component Notes

In addition to Note Profiles, you can also add Component Notes to multiple or single components by using the "Tools" button at the top (shown below).

Single Component Note

When you select "Add Note to Single Component", the application will look to the web application for Notes with a Note Type of "Component Note". Below, we see two notes with this Note Type, "Component Note #1" and "Component Note #2", which we will see as options in Creo.

Once you select "OK", you will be given the option to pick the components you wish to place the note on. You can pick as many components as you'd like and then select "OK".

You will see the notes attached to the local coordinate systems of the selected components.

Multi-Component Note

In addition to manually having to select components to attach a note to, Note Builder has the capability to apply Notes programmatically to many components matching certain criteria. In Tools, select "Add Notes to Components" (shown below).

This will produce a different GUI with many a few dropdown options.

  1. Select View - Allows you to pick the DRW view you want to apply the component notes in
  2. Filter Items - Allows you to pick between All Components (Master Rep), Components only in View (SimpRep), and Only Designated Components
  3. Desired Notes - Will pull from the web application based a Component Note NoteType, similiar to Single Notes.

Once you select a View and change the filters, you will see a list of components that the Note can be applied to.

For this example, we will apply Component Note #2 to all the board hex pegs.
